Hover makes it easy to manage how you pay for your domains, email, and other services. This article covers the fees you might see at checkout, the payment methods Hover accepts, and how to add, update, or fund your account so your services keep running without interruption.
Understanding Hover's Fees and Billing Basics
Before you set up or update a payment method, it helps to know how Hover bills you. The table below summarizes the key billing details.
Topic | Details |
|---|---|
ICANN fee | When paying for your Hover products, you may see an itemized ICANN fee in your shopping cart. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) charges a mandatory annual fee for each year of domain registration, renewal, or transfer on gTLDs. |
GST/HST | GST/HST is collected on Hover accounts associated with a Canadian address. Hover does not collect taxes on behalf of any other country. Hover's GST/HST number is 87321 5321 RT0001. |
VAT credentials | Hover does not require VAT credentials for payment. If you need a VAT number to appear on your invoices, add it as the secondary address line when setting up your billing information. |
Supported currency | All transactions are currently processed in US Dollars (USD). |
Accepted payment methods | Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Hover account balance. |
Invoices | You can view and print your Hover invoices from your Hover control panel's Settings page. |
Before you begin
- A Hover account: you'll need an active Hover account with at least one domain, email plan, or other service.
- Sign-in access: have your Hover sign-in credentials and your chosen two-factor authentication (2FA) method ready.
- Payment details on hand: if you're adding or updating a payment method, have your card, PayPal, or Apple Pay information ready before you start.
Step 1: Access Your Billing Information
Start here any time you want to review or change how you pay for your Hover services.
- Sign in to your Hover control panel using your chosen method of 2FA.
- Click Settings in the navigation bar. You'll find the Billing info section within the domain's Overview.
Step 2: Update Your Payment Method
Use this when you need to replace an existing card, PayPal account, or Apple Pay method with a new one.
Warning: Editing your existing payment details directly can sometimes cause a glitch in the billing system that makes the edit fail. Deleting the old method and adding a new one is the more reliable path.
- Sign in to your Hover control panel using your chosen method of 2FA.
- Click Settings in the navigation bar to open the Billing info section.
- In the Billing info section, press Edit.
- Press Delete to remove the billing method on file, then press Continue.
- Select Delete billing information from the confirmation pop-up asking "Are you sure you want to delete your billing information?"
- Select Set up payment in the Billing info section to add your new payment information.
Step 3: Add a New Payment Method
Follow these steps any time you're adding billing information to your account for the first time, or after removing an old method.
Note: Selecting PayPal or Apple Pay will open a separate login screen.
- Sign in to your Hover control panel using your chosen method of 2FA.
- Click Settings in the navigation bar.
- In the Billing info section, press Set up payment.
- Select the radio button for your preferred payment method.
- Enter your billing details, then press Continue.
- Check the box to agree to the cardholder agreement, then press Save changes.
Step 4: Pay With PayPal
You can use a PayPal account to add new services or renew existing ones.
Note: Your PayPal account must have a credit card on file as a backup payment option. PayPal requires a backup credit card for recurring payments from any vendor, and Hover's subscription services renew annually.
- Sign in to your Hover control panel using your chosen method of 2FA.
- From the domain's Overview page, select Settings.
- In the Billing info section, press Set up payment.
- Select the radio button for PayPal, then press PayPal checkout.
- In the pop-up, enter your PayPal account credentials and select Log in.
- Select the payment method associated with your PayPal account, then press Continue.
- Click Agree & continue.
- The PayPal window will close, and the Billing info payment type will now show PayPal.
Step 5: Pay With Apple Pay
Apple Pay can be used as the payment method for your Hover account. Specific Apple Pay hardware and software requirements must be met, and Hover Support's ability to troubleshoot Apple Pay issues is limited by these device-specific requirements.
- Sign in to your Hover control panel using your chosen method of 2FA.
- From the domain's Overview page, select Settings.
- In the Billing info section, press Set up payment.
- Select the radio button for Apple Pay, then choose Pay.
- In the Safari pop-up, confirm the payment on your iPhone to finish setting up Apple Pay as your payment method.
Step 6: Add Funds to Your Account Balance
Adding funds to your Hover account balance is a great way to make sure money is available for upcoming orders.
Note: Your Hover account balance is used as the primary source of payment for all orders. If the balance isn't enough to cover an order, the remaining amount is charged to the payment method on file. Account balance transactions are non-refundable.
- Sign in to your Hover control panel using your chosen method of 2FA.
- From the domain's Overview page, select Settings.
- In the Account balance section, select Add funds.
- Select the desired amount in USD, and click Continue.
- Check the box to agree to the Terms of Service, then press Submit order.
