Accessing your account with email-based two-factor authentication

Tucows is serious about security, and with this in mind, we are stepping up our game by implementing a mandatory email-based two-step sign in (2-factor authentication) process. All customers without a current App or SMS-based two-step sign in will now have this feature enabled.

Important: Two-step sign in is now a mandatory feature and cannot be disabled. If you disable your App or SMS-based two-step sign in, this will be replaced with the email-based two-step sign in until you re-enable App-based two-step sign in.

Email-based two-step sign in overview

Email-based two-step sign in is a method that provides an extra layer of security to your Hover account in addition to your username and password. When two-step sign in  is enabled, your account cannot be accessed by anyone unauthorized by you.

Hover offers App and SMS-based two-step sign in. If you enable this feature, email-based two-step sign in will be disabled.

Signing in to your account

If you don't already have App or SMS-based two-step sign in enabled, you will be prompted to verify your account with a six-digit code sent to both the primary and backup email addresses we have on file.

You will be required to perform this step for each Hover login.

  1. Sign in to your Hover control panel.

  2. Input your username and password, followed by Sign in.

  3. Log in to the email address listed as your Hover account contact. Locate and open the verification email.
Note: The information on your account will be redacted until the verification process is completed, so the support team won't be able to tell you the email address on file.

  4. Enter the verification code from your email to the Hover login screen, followed by Confirm code.

Resolving locked-out accounts

The account will automatically lock if the wrong email verification code is entered more than five times.  If you've been locked out of your account due to too many failed login attempts, you can perform a password reset on the account or contact our support team to assist with unlocking it.

Email access issues

If you're unable to access the primary or backup email addresses on file, you will not be able to sign in to your Hover account at this time. Contact our support team for assistance with alternate verification.
