CalDAV and CardDAV Synchronization for Mobile (iOS and Android)

Hover email accounts can sync your calendar and contacts to your phone or tablet using two open standards: CalDAV for calendars and CardDAV for contacts. CalDAV keeps calendar events consistent across devices — including editing and RSVPs — and works with Android, Gmail, macOS, iOS 5+, and Thunderbird. CardDAV does the same for your contacts, including individual entries and groups, and works with Android, Gmail, macOS, iOS 5+, Outlook, Thunderbird, and other platforms. This article walks through setup for both standards on iOS and Android.

Before you begin

• Your Hover email address and password, which you'll enter into each app during setup.
• Your mailbox plan confirmed to include calendar and contact sync.
• An SSL certificate on your domain, if possible. Without one, your device will show a security warning during setup — you can accept the warning and continue, but an SSL certificate is recommended.

Sync your calendar (CalDAV)

Set up CalDAV on iOS

1. Tap Settings.
2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
3. Tap Add Account.
4. Select Other.
5. Under Calendars, tap Add CalDAV Account.
6. For Server, enter mail.hover.com.
7. For User Name, enter your email address.
8. For Password, enter your email password.
9. Enter anything you like in the Description field — it's pre-filled with what you entered in the Server field.
10. Tap Next.

Events from your webmail calendar will now appear in the Calendar app on your device. Changes made in webmail will show up on your device the next time it refreshes.

Set up CalDAV on Android

You can use either of two apps to set up CalDAV on Android: the free Caldav Sync Free Beta app, or the paid DAVdroid app. Setup steps for both are below; we recommend DAVdroid for easier syncing and more robust support.

Note: If your domain doesn't have an SSL certificate, you'll see a warning during setup. If you still want to add the CalDAV account, accept the warning and continue.

Caldav Sync Free Beta (install the app first)

1. Tap Settings.
2. Select Accounts.
3. Tap Add Account.
4. Select CalDav Sync Adapter.
5. For User, enter your email address.
6. For Password, enter your email password.
7. For URL, enter http://mail.hover.com/caldav/youremailaddress, replacing youremailaddress with your full Hover email address.
8. Tap Sign in or register.

Note: If your domain has an SSL certificate, your URL should begin with https:// instead of http://.

DAVdroid (install the app first)

1. Tap Settings.
2. Select Accounts.
3. Tap Add Account.
4. Select DAVdroid.
5. For URL, enter mail.hover.com/caldav/youremailaddress, replacing youremailaddress with your full Hover email address.
6. For Username, enter your email address.
7. For Password, enter your email password.
8. Tap Next.
9. Select the calendars you want to sync.

Events from your webmail calendar will now appear in your device's calendar app. Changes made in webmail will show up on your device the next time it refreshes.

Sync your contacts (CardDAV)

3. Tap Add Account.
4. Select CardDav.
5. Under "Add account," tap CardDAV again.
6. For URL, enter mail.hover.com.
7. For Username, enter your email address.
8. For Password, enter your email password.
9. Tap Next.
10. Once your information is verified, tap Finish.

DAVdroid (install the app first)

1. Tap Settings.
2. Select Accounts.
3. Tap Add Account.
4. Select DAVdroid.
5. Select Login with URL and email address.
6. For URL, enter mail.hover.com/carddav/youremailaddress, replacing youremailaddress with your full Hover email address.
7. For Username, enter your email address.
8. For Password, enter your email password.
9. Tap the arrow in the top right to verify your account details.
10. Select your address book to sync all contacts.

Your webmail contacts, including groups, will now appear in your device's contacts app. Changes made in webmail will show up on your device the next time it refreshes.
