Files lets you store and share documents, photos, and other files directly from Hover webmail, without needing a separate cloud storage service. This article covers uploading, organizing, sharing, and managing files and folders within your space quota.
Storage Limits and Naming Rules
You can store up to 2,000 files, as long as you stay within your total space quota, and organize them into up to 100 folders, including sub-folders. Any single folder can hold up to 1,000 files.
File and folder names can be any length, but names longer than 80 characters are truncated in the display, with the missing portion replaced by an ellipsis (...).
Before you begin
- A Big Mailbox account: Files is available to Big Mailbox customers only.
- The file already saved to your computer: you'll need it on your device before you can upload it.
Step 1: Upload a File
- Click the Files tab.
- Navigate to the folder where you want to store the file.
- Click Upload file here.
- Browse to the file you want and click Open.
Your file uploads to the folder you selected.
Tip: You can upload any file type as long as you stay within your space quota — documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, photos, and videos are all supported.
Step 2: Create a Folder
You can create up to 100 folders, including sub-folders, nested up to five levels deep. Folders display in alphabetical order.
Note: Folder names can't include forward slashes, can't start with a period, and can't be named index.htm or index.html.
- Click the Files tab.
- Click Create folder in the toolbar.
- Enter a name for the folder.
- Click the check mark to save it.
To create a sub-folder, select the folder you want as the parent, then click Create folder and enter a name for the sub-folder.
Note: Files and folders always display in alphanumerical order — there's no option to manually reorder them.
Step 3: Move Files into a Folder
- Click the Files tab.
- Select the file or files you want to move.
- Click Move in the actions toolbar.
- Use the Move to drop-down to choose the destination folder.
Step 4: Share a File or Folder
Sharing marks an item so you can send others a link to it — you don't need to attach the actual file to an email.
- Click the Files tab.
- Select the file or folder you want to share.
- Click Share to generate a link.
- Click the link icon beside the shared item to reveal the URL, then copy and paste it wherever you'd like to share it.
Anyone who opens the link sees the corresponding file or folder.
Tip: If you receive a file by email and want to save it to Files, save it to your computer first, then upload it using the steps in Step 1 above.
Note: You can't attach a file stored in Files directly to an email. Instead, email the file's shared URL.
Step 5: Delete a File or Folder
- Click the Files tab.
- Hover over the file or folder you want to delete.
- Click Delete.
- Click Ok to confirm.
Warning: Deleting a folder deletes all files and sub-folders inside it. If a deleted file was shared, anyone with the link loses access immediately.
Next steps
- Share large attachments through Files instead of email: see Using the Webmail Mail Tab for guidance on email size limits.
- Keep your folder structure simple: since folders sort alphabetically and can't be manually reordered, name them with that in mind.
