One of the benefits of the Etsy Plus tiered-price service package includes a discount when registering a domain name with Hover. If you're using the Etsy voucher when linking your domain to Etsy this process should complete automatically.
If you encounter any issues with this process there are several reasons that this may be occurring.
Checking your domain name servers
If your domain nameservers do not point to Hover, this will cause your Etsy connection to fail. This can occur if you were previously using a third-party hosting provider or if you have recently transferred your domain name from a different registrar.
In order for your domain name to link to your Etsy store, you need to ensure your nameservers point to Hover. Hover's nameservers are ns1.hover.com and ns2.hover.com.
Note: Before making any nameservers changes, ensure you're no longer using any services like email or third-party email hosting linked to the current DNS manager.
- To view your domain's current nameservers, sign in to your Hover control panel using your chosen method of 2FA.
-
Click Domains. If you have more than one domain, you will see a list of them here. Click the domain name that you'd like to connect to your Etsy store.
- From the Overview tab, scroll to the Nameservers section. This is where you can view and edit the nameservers if they are not pointing to Hover.
- To change your nameservers to Hover, select Edit.
- Enter the Hover nameservers, ns1.hover.com and ns2.hover.com, followed by Save nameservers.
Checking your DNS settings
In order to use our Hover connect tool, your DNS A record must point to Hover's IP address which is 216.40.34.41.
- To view your domain's current A records, sign in to your Hover control panel using your chosen method of 2FA.
-
Click Domains. If you have more than one domain, you will see a list of your domains here. Click the domain name that you'd like to connect to your Etsy store.
- Select the DNS tab. Ensure you have a root A record and a wildcard A record entered.
- If your DNS dashboard has no records populated, you automatically populate the correct DNS information to allow your domain forwarding to function. Select the Bulk edit drop-down menu followed by Reset DNS.
- If you'd like to change only the IP address, select Edit beside both the @ root, and * wildcard records.
- Enter in 216.40.34.41 followed by Save changes.
